Jan Karski (24 April 1914 - 13 July 2000) was a Polish Catholic WWII resistance fighter with Żegota and later a professor at Georgetown University. In 1942-43 Karski reported to the Polish government in exile and the Western allies on the situation in Nazi-occupied Poland, especially the Nazi German extermination camps.

 

Jan Karski was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the highest civilian award) by President Barack Obama in 2012.
